Toilet Paper FAQUpdated a year ago

Is Zero Co toilet paper recycled?

Yes! It is classified as FSC recycled. This means that the Forest Stewardship Council has verified that materials used are made from recycled materials.

What about the rest of the packaging?

Inner core: made from 100% recycled cardboard.

Individual wrapping: made from 100% recycled paper

Outer carton: made from 100% Recycled cardboard.

Is all of the packaging recyclable?

Yes! Pop it in your regular kerbside recycling bin.

Can I compost my TP packaging?

The core can be composted.

The carton is made from 100% recycled paper and is 100% recyclable. The inks used are water based flexo printing. To be considered compostable standards AS4736, AS5810 or equivalent need to be met. Currently we have not had out cartons tested under these standards.

What do you mean by ‘Manufactured in Australia from local and imported materials’?

We chose to label in this way for transparency as the supply chain on our TP is a little complex. The recycled tissue paper comes on giant rolls from Vietnam. When it reaches Australia the tissue is debossed, rolled onto the core, cut down to size, wrapped and packed. The core, wrap and carton are all made here in Australia.

We’d love to buy our tissue raw material  from Australia but we couldn’t find someone willing to share. We took the next best thing keeping the majority of the manufacturing still here onshore in local supply chains.

Why can’t I get the toilet paper in my subscription?

We are working on this and you may be able to soon.

How is toilet paper solving the single-use plastic problem?

No plastic will be found on this TP, unlike a lot of suppliers in the Supermarket! We use all recycled and recyclable paper materials.

As you know Zero Co fund ocean clean ups around the country and globe. So the bigger we grow, the more we have to spend on our mission!

Is your TP whitened with any chemicals?

Zero Co toilet paper is oxygen bleached meaning it is free from chlorine bleaching. Oxygen bleach is an eco friendly chemical that decomposes in oxygen and water. It is also biodegradable and septic tank safe.

Why is each roll individually wrapped? Seems wasteful?

We decided to wrap our TP for two reasons. It’s more hygienic and keeps the product free from dust and dirt while it travels to you and stays stored in your home. We also wanted to create some really lovely wrappers that will spruce up and stand proud in any bathroom. All wrappers are made from recycled materials and are fully recyclable.

Is this TP safe to use in my septic tank system / composting toilet?

Unlike bamboo toilet paper, recycled toilet paper has a great breakdown rate.  So yes it’s safe to use in different systems!
